As Student & Researcher
"I am interested in researching psychotherapeutic interventions from a transdiagnostic approach. That is, targeting “faulty” brain mechanisms and processes through psychotherapy rather than specific diagnostic categories. This approach looks at the commonalities that underlie mental disorders rather than seeing each disorder as unique and discrete.
I began working and training in the mental health field over 17 years ago. To say I have learned a thing or two about human behaviour since then would be a colossal understatement. My career has evolved along with me. To date, I am most proud of my work in Expressive Arts Therapy (ExAT). I am extremely passionate about the use of creativity and the arts for personal and social change. This is my life’s work. I now run my own private practice in Intermodal Expressive Arts, Creativity Coaching, and offering training opportunities to groups.
Earning my undergraduate degree at Trent was one of the best decisions I’ve made. The small class sizes and approachability of the professors made all the difference for me as a neurodivergent and mature student. Learning how to learn – and discovering how new knowledge is made – was truly life-altering. Trent has provided me with opportunities to challenge myself, think critically, and educate others based on research findings.
My aim is to do my part to contribute to our mental health knowledge and interventions; to help destigmatize mental illness and addiction issues; and the help create a more trauma-informed society."
